How to choose the right paving stones for your project?
When you’re planning to create a driveway, terrace or outdoor space, choosing pavers adapted to you project is a crucial step in achieving the aesthetic and functional result you want. Driveway pavers are designed to withstand the weight of vehicles. This makes them an ideal choice for many landscaping projects. Here’s a guide to help you choose the perfect adapted pavers to your project.
Consider paver thickness: The thickness of your pavers is an important factor to consider. It determines the pavers’ ability to bear the weight of vehicles and resist wear and tear over time. For a driveway, we recommend choosing paving blocks at least 6 cm thick to ensure optimum durability. Our reclaimed granite or sandstone cobblestones are an ideal size available in 15x15x15 cm or 15x20x15 cm.
Choose the type of paving material: Driveway pavers are available in a variety of materials, each offering unique aesthetic and durability characteristics. Here are some common options:
Natural stone pavers: Stone pavers, such as sandstone, granite, porphyry and others, offer timeless elegance and durability. They are available in a range of colours and finishes, allowing you to personalise your outdoor space.
Sandstone paving stones: These reclaimed cobblestones add a touch of rustic elegance with their distinctive texture and subtle nuances in colour.
Granite driveway pavers: Renowned for its durability and variety of colours, new or reclaimed granite is a durable solution. Granite is resistant to weather, frost and UV rays, bringing authentic charm to any project.

How to lay pavers on sand ?
Preparing the site: Start by marking out the paving area with ropes.
For a driveway intended for cars, a width of at least 3 metres is recommended. Dig to a depth that takes into account the gravel or sand sub-base and the thickness of the paving stones (6 cm minimum for a driveway, i.e. at least 20 cm).
Make sure you include a slope of at least 1% to allow rainwater to run off and pipes to pass through.
Next, install a geotextile covering to prevent weeds from growing and materials from mixing, then lay your sub-base of gravel, crushed stone, sandetc. Make sure the ground is level.
Apply a layer of sand (0/4) 4 to 5 cm thick, then level it with a spirit level.
Lay the paving stones directly on the sand bed in the desired pattern (arched, circular, peacock-tailed, cross-jointed or aligned). Leave a space of about 1 to 2 cm between the paving stones for the joints.
Also leave a wider space around the edges for the kerbstones or edging pavers you will install later. Regularly check that the paving is level using a level.
Compact the pavers using a vibrating plate to obtain a uniform surface.
Apply a layer of fine sand or polymer sand, making sure to fill the joints with a broom, then water the surface for the sand to set between the pavers.
Wait a few days before driving or parking on the paved driveway.
