For the first article of our blog, we have chosen to present you a project of which we are particularly proud: The surroundings of the Grand Hôtel-Dieu de Lyon (France), a prestigious place, steeped in history, in the heart of the city.
Conversion of the Hôtel-Dieu
The first hospital in Lyon, whose first foundations date back to the 12th century, closed its doors in 2010 for a hotel, museum, commercial and gastronomic conversion. In 2017, as part of the reconversion project, Eiffage Construction and architects Albert Constantin and Didier Repellin called on Noblema to advise them and provide them with the materials that cover the surroundings of this exceptional building: Place Pascalon, Rue Paufique and Rue Marcel Gabriel Rivière.
The construction site
The choice is made on reclaimed cobbles to stay in harmony with these historic sites. Indeed, the colours and formats of the Lyonnais paving stones make it possible to preserve all the authenticity of the building and the surrounding streets. The grey colour highlights the light facades of the buildings and the Hôtel Dieu.
We sawed the top of the pavement to obtain a perfect flat surface and ensure walking comfort and PMR (Person with Reduced Mobility) access. The paving stones also have a precise format: 14×14, 14×20 and 11×20 in order to respect the specifications of the chief architects of the French buildings.
On May 23, 2017, our first truck delivered 135 m² of pavers for a test board. The success is there and we are off to a great adventure for a whole year. To cover a total surface area of 3,500 m², 35 trucks delivered 875 tonnes of paving stones. A rate of 2 trucks per week had to be respected to supply the installation teams.
Opening to the public and site visit
On April 27, 2018, L’Hôtel-Dieu opened its doors and allowed Lyon residents and tourists to (re)discover the site in a new form with its shopping mall. Hôtel-Dieu has many courtyards and gardens where everyone can also come and stroll. The project will be completed at the end of 2019 with the opening of a 5*hotel and the Cité de la gastronomie. The Hôtel-Dieu is open 7 days a week and we invite you, during a future visit to the former capital of the Gaulles, to admire this magnificent place and appreciate the enhancement of the site thanks, in part, to our Lyonnais cobblestones.
A great success for Nobléma, a satisfaction for our client Eiffage and a great reference in France.
