This inspiration point is located on the shores of Lake Aix-les-Bains in the Alps (France). It’s a very beautiful and interesting project because we find in this arrangement the judicious marriage between the stone of the Alps (Gneiss) and the Lyon granite setts.
Origin of the project
The project was born from the desire of a private individual to re-design the exteriors of his house and the collaborative work between a local landscape gardener and a landscape designer.
The materials had to ensure both the comfort of walking and the stability of a table and chairs for lunch on the terrace. Above all, they had to keep and rediscover the charm of this old and beautiful house from the 1960s.
The choice of stones and paving stones
Our customers came to visit our landscaped garden where a wide selection of our natural stones, reclaimed cobblestones and cobbles are displayed in a natural setting. This visit allowed them to see the rendering of the naturel stones and paving stones once they had been laid and to choose what suited them.
Their choice was made for our granite setts with tops sawn and surface flamed, our whole granite cobbles with a patina finish and our Alpine stone in gneiss.
Indeed, the bronze and grey hue of the granite cobbles from Lyon makes it possible to bring out the facade of the house in a light colour and blends nicely with the stone of the Alps in the same colour.
Also note that a line of edge pavers made of whole granite setts with a natural patina on top provides a contrast with the sawn setts.
The laying of granite cobbles from Lyon and Alpine stones
The construction site took place in autumn 2018 over a period of 3 to 4 weeks. The cobblestones were laid in line and staggered, on mortar with a 0/2 fine sand mortar joint.
The Alpine stone was judiciously laid for the porch and the stairs.
The old concrete stair steps have been covered with a step and a stair riser in calibrated thickness Alpine stone to avoid overloading with glue. The stair nosing is rounded.
The porch is made of stone slabs from the Alps, which are also calibrated.
Our customers are delighted to find a new exterior as they had imagined. Success comes from the good synergy between the client, the landscape architect, the landscape architect and Noblema.
A beautiful achievement!
